Work on ethanol plant in sugar factories should be accelerated: JP Dalal

September 15, 2022Chandīgarh: Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister JP Dalal has said that the construction works of the ethanol plants to be installed in the sugar mills should be expedited so that the farmers can benefit from these mills . In addition, farmers are expected to produce more and more of the new sugarcane variety 15023. The subsidy will be given to farmers on this variety, he added.

The Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare while chairing a meeting of the Sugar Cane Control Council here today claimed that a 60 KLPD ethanol plant has been set up in Shahabad Sugar Mill and that a 90 KLPD ethanol plant will soon be installed at Panipat Sugar Mill. Apart from this, proposals have been prepared to set up ethanol plants at sugar mills in Rohtak, Karnal, Sonipat, Jind, Kaithal, Meham, Gohana and Palwal, he added. Minister of Cooperation Dr. Banwari Lal, Additional Chief Secretary Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department Smt. Sumita Mishra was also present at the meeting.

Giving more information in this regard, the Minister of Agriculture said that Haryana is the state that gives the highest sugar cane price to the farmers in the country. Moreover, Chief Minister Sh. Manohar Lal is pro-farmer and always works for the welfare of farmers. Sugar cane prices will be set soon with the welfare of farmers in mind, he added.

JP Dalal further informed that 100% of farmers’ cane arrears have been paid. While the arrears of a single sugar mill are outstanding. In addition, instructions were given to pay the unpaid amount of the farmers of this sugar mill.

In addition, the Minister of Agriculture reported that a new variety of sugarcane 15023 has been prepared for farmers. This variety has been approved by the central government. Haryana Hisar Agricultural University has also been commissioned to verify this variety soon. More and more seeds of this variety should be prepared so that farmers can get more benefit from it by producing more of it. With this, Haryana government will provide financial assistance to farmers who planted this new variety last year by verifying, he added.

During the meeting, the Minister of Agriculture further said that a committee has been formed to bridge the production gap between cooperative sugar factories and private sugar factories. In addition, the committee will prepare and submit a report shortly. For this, the responsibility of the sweets will be fixed at the individual level. This year, the crushing season for sweets will be launched before the previous season so that farmers can easily sow the upcoming crop, he said.

He further ordered to select land to give 50 acres of land to the Karnal Sugarcane Breeding Institute to prepare new varieties of sugarcane so that the seeds of new varieties can be made available to the state farmers.

Apart from this, it was decided to renew the licenses of old Gur-Khandsari units and issue licenses to new units. Last year, licenses were issued to 168 units of jaggery and 2 units of Khandsari.

The Director General of the Department of Agriculture, Hardeep Singh, the Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Dr Shaleen, the directors of all the sugar mills and members of the board of directors were present at the meeting.
