Scientific Programmer at South African Sugar Association

The world-renowned SA Sugarcane Research Institute is looking for a Junior Scientist to join leading sugarcane scientists in using computational technologies to develop innovative tools for sustainable sugarcane production. If you are passionate about applying mathematical and computational skills to biophysical sciences, this position is for you. Scientific curiosity, innovative thinking, and excellent programming ability are necessary to succeed as a scientific programmer.

The successful candidate will develop and apply custom software and databases for sugarcane research and production management, and interact with scientists, extension specialists, and sugarcane growers and millers to solve important industry issues. Tasks will include translating scientific concepts into computer codes/algorithms, integrating them into resource databases, and presenting results that bring value to industry.

This position is based at the SASRI offices at 170 Flanders Drive Mount Edgecombe. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but flexibility in terms of remote work is an option. We offer a guaranteed total package allowing employees to
