Enjoy the Holiday Season Worry-Free With This Sugar-Free Modak Recipe

HAPPY GANESH CHATURTHI 2022: There are only a few days left for the long-awaited celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi. This year, the 10-day celebration will begin on August 31 and end on September 9. This festival is mainly celebrated in the state of Maharashtra. Huge pandals are made across the state. People decorate their homes with lights and flowers before welcoming Bappa’s idols for pujas.

And like any other festival in India, Ganesh Chaturthi celebration is incomplete without sweets. People prepare various sweet delicacies, including Bappa’s favorite Modak. And like Bappa, if you also love Modak, we have a recipe that can help you enjoy the delicacy without worrying about sugar intake.

  1. 400g seedless dates
  2. 100g almonds
  3. 100g cashew nuts
  4. 100 g walnuts
  5. 100 g raisins
  6. 100g dried coconut
  7. 30g poppy seeds
  8. 1 teaspoon of ghee

Step 1: Take all dried fruits, including cashews, almonds and walnuts, and cut them into small pieces. Finely chop the seedless dates and dry the coconut pieces.

2nd step: Dry toast the chopped nuts separately for 1-2 minutes. Make sure they don’t get burned. When done, transfer them to a plate.

Step 3: Now put the coconut pieces for dry roasting and wait for them to brown slightly. When done, keep them aside as well. Take the same skillet and add poppy seeds to it and lightly roast them until they start to pop. Now keep them aside separately.

Step 4: Heat the ghee in the same pan and add the chopped dates and raisins to it. Fry them continuously until they come together and turn into a sticky mass. This should take around 5 minutes. Once done, allow the mixture to cool.

Step 5: Now grind the roasted walnuts, dry coconut pieces and poppy seeds into a powder. And then remove the mixture aside in a plate.

Step 6: Add the dates and raisins to the blender to obtain a coarse mixture.

Step 7: After that, put the mixture in a saucepan and add nuts to it. Transfer it to a saucepan and give the ingredients a food mixture

Step 8: Put the pan on the fire and stir continuously for 2-3 minutes until the mixture becomes a sticky mass

Step 9: Take the mixture out into a bowl and let it cool for a while until you can handle it with your bare hands.

Step 10: Press the mixture hard to form a sticky mass.

Step 11: Make small balls of the sticky mass and place them in a modak mold. Press down firmly to level it and shape modak

Step 12: Follow the same process with the remaining mixture, then store them in an airtight container.
