BSF troops and State Police seized a large consignment of brown and contraband sugar worth Rs 1.41 Crore

Agartala, April 17, 2022: The Border Security Force (BSF), Tripura Frontier along with state police and other sister agencies seized 360 grams of brown sugar, 22.5 kilos of cannabis and contraband items on Sunday from different parts last night of State.

In a press release, BSF informed that BSF Tripura Frontier Intelligence Team together with staff from Jirania Police Station in West Tripura District conducted a joint search operation on Sunday afternoon in the house of ‘Abdul Matalim, resident of Bhadra Mishy para, under Jirania police station, about 18 km from Agartala town.

During a joint search, a bag containing ’30 plastic crates of alleged brown sugar weighing approximately 360 grams worth Rs 1,08,00,000′, which were smuggled into the house and apprehended the owner of the house namely Abdul Matalim (30 years old).

The detained person along with the narcotics seized were handed over to the police at the scene for further prosecution under the NDPS Act.

During the follow up action, staff from AD Nagar police station here in Agartala apprehended another person namely Narul Amin (56) from Gajaria under AD Nagar police station in district of West Tripura with Rs 2,81,000 in cash from his possession and held a Maruti Car Dzire with registration number TR05-0293.

Vigilant troops of BSF Tripura also seized 22.5 kilos of cannabis worth Rs 1,12,500 and contraband items worth collectively Rs 25,51,031 in different operations at the Indo-Bangladesh international border, over the past night, bringing the total value of the seizure to Rs 1.41,57,031.

The Border Security Force has continuously pursued its commitment to making “Tripura – A Drug Free State” by conducting regular “anti-narcotics smuggling campaigns” independently as well as in close association with the Tripura Police and other sister agencies deployed in the state.

BSF Tripura regularly carries out such “special anti-narcotics/drugs campaigns” against cross-border smugglers and is successful in their efforts.
